Silent Hill

Christophe Gans 2006

When her adopted daughter is continually plagued by horrendous dreams about a deserted town called Silent Hill, Rose Da Silva decides that maybe taking her to the source of her fear might bring about a cure.

Based on the computer game of the same name....hey wait, don't stop reading!! It's not that bad, and Uwe Boll wasn't involved.

I haven't played the game so I don't know to what extent the story matches up, but it does have a few head scratching plot moments...you're kid sleep walks and has nightmares, seek professional help? No, drive to a deserted town in the middle of nowhere without telling anyone.

For what it is, this film is pretty good escapism. It has some twisted visuals and the atmospherics are quite intense.

It has a few other things going for it of course, Alice Krige is quite, quite mental as the baddie and Laurie Holden has a stunning hairdo.

Bad points? Well, I really don't see the point of Sean Bean, not in general just in this film. As the husband he does very little to further the plot, offers very little as a character and his yank accent is a tad ropey.

A neatly affective little horror film, that shouldn't be overlooked just because it's a computer game adaptation.
