"Youth is a wonderful thing. What a crime to waste it on children"

George Bernard Shaw

“The Goonies” One of my all time favourite films. A must see for anyone who grew up during the 1980’s. This film gave the world Sean Astin (that’s a good thing) and taught many a fat kid the truffle shuffle. A wonderful adventure story for the young (and young at heart). “Goonies never say die!”

“Bugsy Malone” Like ‘The Goonies’ this is a film I have seen a lot in my lifetime (and I mean a lot!). Kids re-create prohibition and gangster era America with Splurge Guns, pedal driven cars and sharp tailored suits. Singing, dancing and a young Jodie Foster. Great fun. “We could have been anything that we wanted to be”

The Harry Potter Films…past, present and future. Showed the world how literary adaptations should work. Never patronises the audience (whether adult or child) and always utilizes the very best acting and production talent around. Stunning filmmaking. “Dear Mr. Potter, we are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry”

“Shrek” & “Shrek 2” Films that work on all levels, for young and old. Showed us there’s more to animation than Disney. “I just know, before this is over, I'm gonna need a whole lot of serious therapy. Look at my eye twitching'”

“Stand By Me” A Stephen King adaptation that’s actually good. A dark, haunting film about friendship made more potent by the brilliance of the young acting talent involved. Show be required viewing for everyone. “I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?”

“Weird Science” Geeks rule! Anthony Michael Hall was one of the kings of 80’s films and this was one of his best. Wish fulfillment of the grandest kind. All you need is a computer and a bra on your head and you too could have the perfect woman! “Maybe it was a dream, you know, a very weird, bizarre, vivid, erotic, wet, detailed dream. Maybe we have malaria”

“The Boy Who Could Fly” The title pretty much sums up this film…yep he could fly. A boy struck dumb by the loss of his parents, develops a friendship with the new girl next door. Guaranteed to make you cry. “Wish hard enough... love long enough... and anything's possible”

“Who Framed Roger Rabbit” When I watched this again recently I was surprised at the amount of adult humour in this film (visit http://www.snopes.com/disney/films/films.asp. For some interesting info on this) Bob Hoskins is on top form; dare I say as good as “The Long Good Friday” as a Bogart-esque Private Eye trying to find out who framed Roger for murder. A nice mix of animation and live action
“I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way”

Anything involving The Muppets! Jim Henson created some of the most lovable characters ever to make it to the big screen. Characters, that while not being human, display emotion better than most mainstream actors around today. One of the most romantic scenes I have ever seen is when Kermit and Miss Piggy go cycling together in “ The Great Muppet Caper”. Always a pleasure to watch, these films entertain kids and adults alike. “Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection. The Lovers, the Dreamers, and me”
