Hoodwinked

Cory Edwards 2005

Little Red Riding Hood you know the story right? The girl in the hood, the granny, the big bad wolf and the woodcutter...well what if there was more to it, what if there was a whole other tale that needed to be told.

The older I get the more I like kids movies; soon I'll be dribbling down myself while laughing at episodes of Boobah. But what do I like more that kids movies? Kids movies that have adult appeal.

Amazingly, this isn't a Disney, DreamWorks or Pixar film, but it doesn't suffer from the lack of huge studio backing, in fact it is refreshingly different.

The animation is top drawer, the voice talent impressive but the best part...the script. This film is packed full of hilarious one liners and throw away quips that would more than likely sail over a child's head, but for me made this a wonderful film to sit through.

I have to admit the first 10 minutes are slow and I did worry that I had just sat down to watch a 'straight' telling of the Red Riding Hood story, but I think that's the point. It neatly sets up the story to then pull the rug out from under it.

I won't waffle on, but Hoodwinked is well worth watching and is a great film whether you are young or old.
