Garfield

Peter Hewitt 2004

Well what can I say? Garfield makes it onto the big screen at last. Its hard, even for me, to be cynical about a film like this. Of course it is essentially a kids film, but anyone my age will remember watching the cartoon on TV and loving Garfield’s caustic wit and wisdom.

In an effort to impress the Vet he has a crush on, Jon Arbuckle agrees to take on a new pet; a dog called Odie, much to Garfield’s annoyance. However after Odie gets dog napped Garfield realises he may have lost a good friend and sets out rescue him.

I wasn’t expecting much from this film, but amazingly I found that I couldn’t sit there straight faced for long. Bill Murray makes a wonderful Garfield, delivering some truly hysterical lines. The director is clever enough to keep the film short and keep the focus firmly on Garfield, and because of this we never become bored.

All in all this is a very funny film and an excellent film that all the family can enjoy. I highly recommend it.
