Cabin Fever

Eli Roth 2002

A group of teenagers decide to have a little holiday in a cabin in the woods, but the enjoyment is short lived when they encounter a man infected with a deadly disease and soon begin to feel the affects too.
Its always a cabin in the woods isn’t it, never a hotel room in the city. Maybe the teenagers should save up a bit more when planning their holidays. A little less death and blood, a little more room service.

Far from being the redeemer of modern horror films that some reviewers had portrayed it as being “Cabin fever” is somewhat predictable fare. A bunch of good-looking teens devoid of adult supervision attempt to have a good time only to end up being killed off one by one. However, this time there is no boogeyman no Michael Myers no Freddy Kruger. Eli Roth introduces us to a far more unpleasant killer, a deadly flesh-eating virus.

The ick factor of this film is quite high with some rather gruesome special effects that did lift it above more mundane horror films. However, it’s not really anything new but does have some cracking moments of humour, which I won’t spoil by explaining. It’s a highly spirited effort and does show that Eli Roth is definitely one to watch. A good edition to the hollowed halls of the horror film, but not really vastly different.
